Meta is gearing up for a big leap in wearable tech. After announcing the launch of its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses to markets like India, the company is now reportedly racing to launch an all-new, high-end version of smart glasses by October 2025.

According to Bloomberg, Meta’s next-generation smart glasses will come equipped with a small built-in display, allowing users to run simple apps and view photos directly from the device. The new model is expected to be priced at over $1,000 and will likely be a significant upgrade over Meta’s current glasses. However, the project timeline is tight.
Managers are reportedly pushing teams to accelerate their work, even requiring weekend shifts to meet the October goal. There’s still a slight risk of delays, but Meta is pushing hard to stay on schedule.
On the other hand, Apple is quietly working on its own version of smart glasses, codenamed “N50.” These glasses are still in the early stages of development. They won’t offer full augmented reality but will analyse the user’s surroundings and provide useful insights. In parallel, Apple is also reportedly developing camera-equipped AirPods, offering similar functionality for users who might not want to wear glasses all day.
The real competition between Meta and Apple is expected to heat up later this decade when fully immersive AR devices become mainstream, according to the report. Still, it’s surprising that Apple, known for its expertise and dominance in wearables like the Apple Watch, has allowed Meta to gain an early lead in the smart glasses space.
