According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is considering placing a camera inside the display of the standard Apple Watch Series, similar to the front-facing camera on iPhones. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Ultra will likely feature a camera on the side of the watch, near the crown and button.
This design choice makes sense since the Ultra is thicker, providing more space for hardware. With this setup, Ultra users could point their wrist at objects to scan them, while Series users might need to flip their wrists for the camera to work.
It’s important to note that the watch models with cameras are still several generations away from release. However, if successful, Apple’s smartwatch could be a truly intelligent companion.
Beyond cameras, Apple is facing challenges with its long-planned blood-pressure tracking feature. The company is reportedly struggling with accuracy issues, delaying its release.
Additionally, a redesigned, plastic version of the Apple Watch SE may not make it to market. This is because the design team is unhappy with its appearance and the operations team is struggling to make it significantly cheaper than the aluminum version, according to the report.
Furthermore, the next Apple Watch Ultra is expected to support satellite texting and a 5G wireless service called RedCap. It will also come with a new modem chip from MediaTek.
