Apple taking unusual security measures at its WatchKit labs before the launch of the Apple Watch next month

Apple unveiled the Apple Watch earlier this week and as the launch date is nearing, the tech giant is going to extreme lengths to keep its Apple Watch developer labs secret.

Apple has started inviting potential Apple Watch developers to its WatchKit labs but they will have to tape their iPhone and MacBook cameras to prevent leaks. The is also a strict attendance policy with government-issued photo ID and the developers are also required to bring a near-final version of an Apple Watch app on a MacBook running Yosemite.

In an email to developers Apple states "you may bring one personal iPhone into the lab. You agree that tape will be placed over the cameras on your MacBook and iPhone (or on your team member’s MacBook or iPhone) since no photography or video will be allowed at WatchKit labs."

An earlier report had revealed that Apple is also blocking internet access, and developers will not be allowed to bring outside materials into the room which houses the Apple Watch. Apple is planning to hold its secretive labs in London, Tokyo, Sunnyvale, Sydney, Beijing, and Hong Kong. If developers agree to the strict rules then they also agree "not to take any photographs, video recordings, or screenshots of Apple Watch, including but not limited to any application trailers of your application running on Apple Watch, or any pictures inside of the WatchKit lab venues."

Apple Watch was unveiled at the company's Spring Forward event earlier this week and is available in Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition variants. The Apple Watch starts at $549, while the premium Apple Watch Edition costs $10,000 onwards. The wearable will be available from April 24 onwards in 9 countries.
