HIGHLIGHTS

eSIM capability allows it to be used as a standalone device.

The device is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2500.

It also features ECG tracking like the Apple Watch 4.

Xiaomi’s Mi band series of wearables have already stolen a lot of market share in the budget segment. Now, Xiaomi is looking forward to grabbing Apple’s share in the market with the newly launched Amazfit Verge 2. The Amazfit Verge 2 is sold by Huami (a biometric and data-driven company with an expertise in smart wearables) a sub-brand of Xiaomi. Interestingly, this smartwatch offers e-SIM support, a real-time ECG tracker, an AMOLED display and a lot more at a price that is hard to digest.

The original Amazfit Verge was well received in the tech community, therefore the expectation from this device would be pretty high.

Amazfit Verge 2: Specifications

Talking of the hardware specifications, the Amazfit Verge 2 sports a 1.39 inch AMOLED display with 454X454p resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display is backed by IP68 dust and water resistance. At the heart, Amazfit Verge 2 packs in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2500  SoC clocked at 1.1GHz, coupled with 512MB and 4GB of storage. The e-sim support makes this smartwatch capable a standalone device to make and receive calls. The 420mAH battery inside would probably hold up for a day on a 4G connection. This device also has support for 4G VoLTE (via e-SIM), Wi-Fi  802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS+GLONASS+BDS and NFC.

Major Upgrades

The Amazfit Verge 2 comes with e-SIM support which was missing in the previous version. Another major upgrade is the addition of a real-time electrocardiogram (ECG). The chassis is built out of a microcrystalline Zirconium Ceramic frame instead of polycarbonate used in their previous device.
