OpenAI’s ChatGPT ran into a major service disruption today, leaving thousands of users worldwide unable to use the platform properly. Outage-tracking site Downdetector recorded complaint numbers climbing rapidly, jumping from roughly 2,000 to 3,000 reports within a short window.
SurveyA breakdown of the global complaints showed the bulk of the trouble, about 80 percent, tied to core app functionality. Mobile users weren’t spared either, with 9 percent of reports coming from the Android and iOS apps, while 7 percent pointed to problems with ChatGPT’s coding tool, Codex.
The situation looked similar within India, where complaints surged past the 1,300 mark and kept climbing. Indian users reported comparable proportions: about 80 percent citing general functionality issues, 9 percent flagging app-specific problems, and the remaining 7 percent linked to API errors.
This isn’t the first rough patch for ChatGPT recently. A previous outage weeks ago saw the chatbot still able to handle text-based questions while its Codex and image-generation tools failed outright. OpenAI has yet to issue an official statement on the current disruption, though industry watchers expect servers to be restored soon.
