Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 MIUI 9.5 update brings new notifications & tons of optimization
HIGHLIGHTS

The notifications on the Redmi 5 will be more in line with stock Android after this update offering in-line reply option.

Last week Xiaomi started rolling out the MIUI 9.5 Global stable update to the Redmi Note 4, Note 3 and the Mi Max. Now, the update is making its way to the Redmi Note 5. The update does not upgrade the Android version but adds changes, like a revamped notifications centre, bringing it closer to stock Android. The new update brings features like bundled notifications, one-finger gesture to expand notifications and in-line replies. Besides, that Xiaomi had added tons of optimizations across the UI, addressing the shortcomings found thus far. The update is being rolled out via an OTA update, but if you are into rooting, the fastboot as well recovery ROMs are available on the MIUI forum.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 feature a 5.99-inch, 18:9 aspect ratio display making it considerably taller than the last phone. Unlike the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which has much more powerful Snapdragon 636 SoC, the Redmi Note 5 makes do with last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. This is the same chip that powered last years Redmi Note 4. The Note 5 is available in two variants – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. Good thing is that the phone offers a good battery backup, thanks to the 4000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has also updated the rear camera on the phone, which is now much better than the one on the Redmi Note 4. The new 12MP camera at the rear takes decent pictures in most lighting conditions and is easily among the best in its price bracket. That said, it is still not as good as the dual camera setup on the slightly more expensive Redmi Note 5 Pro. There is a 5MP front-facing camera on the phone, which has also seen some improvement.
