- Redmi Go is an entry-level phone running on Android Go OS with 1GB RAM.
Xiaomi launched its Redmi 7 series of smartphones in February in India and was expected to also introduce its first Android Go running device, Redmi Go. However, that didn’t happen. Now, Xiaomi has sent out media invites for a March 19 launch event where it will launch the entry-level Redmi Go smartphone. The phone has already been announced officially by the company and is available in the Philippines. As its name suggests, the handset runs on Google’s lightweight Android Go operating system and comes equipped with less powerful hardware to cut down on costs.
The Redmi Go leverages the Android Oreo (Go Edition) operating system and thus comes pre-loaded with Google Go suite of apps. The handset features a 5.0-inch HD display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, which is coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is also a 16GB storage variant of the phone in the Philippines but it is not known whether it will be made available in India. The device supports expandable storage of up to 128GB via a microSD card. It features a dual SIM slot and a dedicated microSD card tray.
