Xiaomi Mi 5 teaser leak suggests fingerprint scanner

Xiaomi Mi 5 teaser leak suggests fingerprint scanner
HIGHLIGHTS

The leak was posted by @KJuma and doesn’t reveal much, but a teaser image could mean that the Mi 5 may be announced soon.

A teaser image, possibly of the Xiaomi Mi 5, has been leaked on Chinese Microblogging site, Weibo, by @KJuma. The image doesn’t reveal much about Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship as it is simply a large '5' followed by the words “Are you ready.” But, right at the bottom of the teaser is a faint fingerprint, suggesting the possibility of a fingerprint scanner on the device. The addition of a fingerprint scanner shouldn't be too much of a surprise, considering the fact that most manufacturers have started incorporating them in devices such as the OnePlus 2, and the newly-announced Huawei Mate S.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is rumored to be launched with a MediaTek Helio X20 SoC, 5.3-inch QHD display, 4GB of RAM, 16MP primary camera with dual-LED flash, USB Type-C port, and options for 16GB or 64GB of internal storage. It was earlier rumored that the Mi 5 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, but Xiaomi may have switched to a Helio X20, which is expected to be launched sooner. The MediaTek Helio X20 was officially unveiled in May this year, and it reportedly scores just over 70,000 on AnTuTu Benchmark.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 was unveiled at MWC 2015, and Qualcomm have been revealing details of the SoC gradually. Late in August, it revealed the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) called the Hexagon 680. Earlier this month, Qualcomm announced its Smart Protect Technology that will provide real-time malware protection.Yesterday, a screenshot that allegedly showed the benchmark score of the Snapdragon 820 was leaked. It showed a score of 83,774 on AnTuTu Benchmark.

It has also been reported that Xiaomi might be announcing the Mi 4c this month, and only 100,000 devices will be made of the phone. This may be because the phone is intended to be a stop-gap handset, till the Mi 5 is launched.
