HIGHLIGHTS

The listing suggests that the two phones will have NFC, FM radio, OTG and wireless charging support.

As the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ draw closer, more leaks are revealing finer details of the two devices. Yesterday, FCC certifications of the upcoming smartphones were leaked online. The filing confirms three different models, at least for the US market. These are the SM-G950U, SM-G950U1 and SM-G950W for the Galaxy S8, and SM-G955U, SM-G955U1 and SM-G955W for the S8+. The phones include all the required connectivity standards including 4G LTE, NFC, MST (magnetic secure transfer) for mobile payments, GPS and OTG support.

To recap, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are expected to feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch curved bezel-less displays. Going by previous image leaks, Samsung is also ditching the home button this year and might finally adopt on-screen navigation keys. It is also rumoured that Samsung may offer 18:9 aspect ratio on its new phones, similar to the new LG G6.

Performance is likely to be handled by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC or the Exynos 8895 SoC, depending on the region. Both are latest flagship-class SoCs, and Samsung is expected to pair them with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The phones might differ in the camera department.

Apart from re-introducing an iris scanner that had made its unfortunate debut with the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung may also introduce its own version of AI assistant, Bixby. From what we know till now, Bixby will support visual and text recognition. It is being developed by the team behind Viv Labs, who originally developed Apple’s Siri, and is now part of Samsung.

A previous report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, with 64GB storage, could be priced at £799 (Rs. 64,838 approx) and £899 (Rs. 72,953 approx) respectively. However, official prices and availability will only be known on March 29, when Samsung finally launches the phone.
