Apple facing supply shortage for iPhone 6s Plus?
HIGHLIGHTS

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a note to investors claiming the shortage.

The iPhone 6s Plus is reportedly facing supply problems due to production issues with its backlight module. According to reports, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed, in a note to investors, that backlight production issues at Japanese supplier Minebea have led to shortage in supply amid pre-orders. Kuo reportedly believes that the shipping duration for iPhone 6s Plus has been delayed by 3-4 weeks because of this.

Further, Apple seems to be tackling the issue by transferring backlight module orders to another supplier, known as Radiant. This will result in a boost of about 70-50% in Radiant's orders with 4-5 million units required in September alone. Radiant reportedly has a proven track record of supplying backlight modules for Apple's iPad Mini.

Apple recently announced that the demand for its new iPhones is very high, since they went up for pre-orders. While the company didn’t reveal exact figures, Apple said it is on track to break the previous year’s record of first weekend sales. Last year, the company sold 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus during the first weekend. Additionally, analysts say Apple will sell 1.5 to 2 million iPhone units available for sale on the launch day, which is September 25.

The Cupertino-based company released both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus last week in an event. The newly launched iPhones come with 3D Touch technology that senses the pressure of touch on the screen and performs tasks accordingly. Under the hood, the iPhones are powered with a 3rd generation 64-bit A9 processor that is apparently 70% faster than the earlier A8 chipset. It comes with a 12MP iSight rear camera and a 5MP front camera. There is no official word about the launch of the devices in India at the moment, but reports say Apple is looking to launch them in October. It appears that the company is planning to cash in on the festive season in India.
