The Honor Play is set to launch in India today, August 6. The dual SIM smartphone boasts of the Kirin 970 SoC. We have seen this SoC on other Honor phones in the past, but with the Honor Play, the company has implemented a new GPU Turbo tech for better gaming and overall performance. How well this GPU turbo tech fairs is something we will tell you in our review.

As for the launch event, you can watch it live below. The smartphone will be an Amazon Exclusive and will go on sale at 4PM today. The live stream will kick off at 11:30AM IST. Just click play below and you can watch the event live.

Coming to the specifications of the Honor Play, the smartphone is about 7.5mm thin and weighs 176 grams. It has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box skinned with Honors EMUI 8.1. As we’ve mentioned above, the smartphone runs on the Kirin 970 SoC and will be available in two variants – 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB ram with 64GB storage. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card. For the optics, the Honor play has a 16MP selfie camera and a 16MP+2MP dual camera setup at the back. A 3750mAH battery powers the entire package.

Honor Play Price and Colours

In China, the phone is available in Aurora Blue, Black, Violet, and Red colour variants at a starting price of 1,999 yuan (approximately Rs 21,000). The Amazon.in page suggests that the company will launch the Midnight Blue and Navy Blue variants in India. The India price of the phone is not yet known. Given that it launches just two days ahead of the Xiaomi Mi A2 in the country, one can expect Honor to price the Honor Play in competition with Xiaomi’s new Android One smartphone.

Honor Play First Impressions

In our first impressions of the Honor Play we said, “There are a few things to really like about the Honor Play. For starters, the metal build is very solid and will offer some peace of mind to people who are a little clumsy with their phones. No wireless charging should mean no glass backs. Second, the display is very crisp and gorgeous to look at and use. The phone is still running old hardware, but with new software tricks up its sleeve, which definitely requires more in-depth testing than what we have done so far. For now, the Honor Play seems like a very promising device, especially if it was to launch in India at the same price as it did in China (sub-20K), but whether it will live up to all of its promises, while justifying its price, is something we will find out in our review.” You can read our detailed first impressions of the device here.
