Honor 5C first impressions and performance test
The Honor 5C has a lot going for itself, right from a brand new SoC (processor) to the all metal design and impressive battery-life. The Honor 5C is quite a package.
The latest from the Honor stable, the Honor 5C brings quite a few much needed changes to the segment. Priced at Rs. 10,999, the 5C is placed in one of the most competitive smartphone segments. And, it does a great job of differentiating itself from the competition by offering quite a few USPs over the competition.
New 16nm SoC drives the Honor 5C: At the heart of the Honor 5C lay the new Huawei Kirin 650 SoC, a custom SoC, something have seen being used by Honor smartphones often. With a custom SoC, Huawei Honor smartphones are able to optimize the software (UI) to make it more efficient in terms of speed and battery consumption. Huawei Kirin 650 delivers best of both worlds in terms of performance and efficiency. Four 2.0 GHz high-performance cores, and four 1.7 GHz lower-performance cores work their magic by approaching tasks in the most optimized manner. Lighter tasks are assigned to lower clocked cores, ensuring maximum power efficiency along with speed. While heavy tasks are handled by the high performance cores, ensuring power-on-tap for demanding tasks like gaming, rendering, etc.
All metal premium design: The all metal build on the Huawei Honor 5C is classy, well finished and unique. The uniqueness can be attributed to the dual tone metal design with smoothened finish that is very different in comparison to all the other metal based smartphones in the price segment. The smooth, matte metal rear panel, flanked by striated metal strips above and below the rear panel add to the design and lend continuity to the overall looks and design aesthetics.
Bright IPS display: The display on the Honor 5C is well balanced in terms of size, resolution and quality. It offers good brightness levels and natural colors that lend themselves very well to extreme viewing angles.
Simple, smooth UI with latest Android: Running on Android Marshmallow, the Honor 5C gives you the latest and best of Android. What makes things even better is the simple UI layer on top that doesn’t overdo the customization bit. The UI is easy to use, well implemented and super smooth.
Performance and battery life: The combination of latest 16nm based Kirin 650 SoC and 2GB of RAM allows the Honor 5C to crack the performance challenge with impressive results. The Honor 5C scores an impressive 53393 on Antutu benchmarks, coming out as one of the fastest in its league. The GFX bench score of 902, shows-off its graphics prowess, putting the latest Mali 830 GPU inside the Kirin 650 to good use.
The Honor 5C is even more impressive in the battery life department. The high density 650 Wh/L based 3000 mAh battery allows the Honor 5c to pack more battery life in smaller space, making the phone lighter and smaller than competition. Add the benefits of latest 16nm based Kirin 650 SoC and you have a winning combination. Android 6.0's ‘Doze Mode’ and Huawei's 3.0 power-saving technology further help the Honor 5c to extract every bit of extra performance from the 3000 mAh battery.
Summing it up: The Huawei Honor 5C is balanced smartphone that offers a well balanced combination of performance, looks and battery-life. All at a very competitive price point. The fact that the Honor 5C is one of the rare smartphones to use a more manageable 5.2-inch screen makes it pretty unique in comparison to the sea of other competing smartphones that are evidently larger, heavier and not as comfortable for single-handed usage.
