However, it has also given rise to new forms of cybercrime, including vibe hacking, an AI-powered manipulation in which cybercriminals exploit advanced language models to steal personal data, conduct phishing scams, and bypass security filters. Unlike traditional hacking, vibe hacking uses AI’s understanding of tone, context, and behaviour to trick users and systems into revealing sensitive information.

How does vibe-hacking work
Unlike traditional phishing, vibe hacking focuses less on malicious links and more on manipulating human emotions and trust to steal sensitive information.
In simple terms, vibe hacking uses AI-generated voices, faces, and messages that “feel right” to the victim. They study users’ online behaviour, tone, and preferences to create fake conversations that seem personal and genuine.
Experts say the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, voice cloning software, and deepfake generators has made vibe hacking easier than ever. Scammers can now replicate familiar voices, imitate coworkers or relatives, and even generate realistic video calls to deceive unsuspecting users and extract personal data, bank details, or credentials.

One of the most common scenarios involves fraudsters pretending to be a colleague on Slack or WhatsApp, discussing “urgent” work matters to trick users into sharing access credentials. Others might impersonate family members asking for help or payment. Victims often don’t realise they’ve been manipulated until it’s too late.
To stay safe, users are recommended to double-check identities before sharing any sensitive data. Multi-factor authentication (MFA), zero-trust frameworks, and AI-based threat detection can help to provide additional layers of defence.
