Sutherland opens new BPO facility in Philippines

Sutherland, with offshore operations in Chennai, Kochi and Mumbai, has announced its expansion in Philippines with the setting up of a new BPO facility in Camarines Sur

Sutherland Global Services, with offshore operations in Chennai, Kochi and Mumbai, has announced that it has expanded its presence in Philippines with the setting up of a new BPO facility in Camarines Sur. The facility was unveiled by Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President of Philippines.

This is Sutherland’s fourth BPO facility in Philippines, after its foray into the country in July 2005.  Sutherland also has BPO facilities in Manila, Clark and Davao City, Philippines. The facility in Camarines Sur went live with 400 employees providing a full range of back office and customer lifecycle management services to Sutherland’s Fortune 500 client base. The addition of this facility is fuelled by continued growth in Sutherland’s current outsourcing engagements as well as the addition of several new clients and complements Sutherland’s provincial growth model in the Philippines.

In 2007, Sutherland more than doubled its headcount in Philippines. The company hired over 3000 professionals to take its Philippines headcount to over 5600.

Dilip Vellodi, Chairman and CEO, Sutherland Global Services said, “Sutherland has a successful track record of investing in geographic areas which meet our strategic criteria — which include access to high quality talent, robust infrastructure and a political and business climate conducive to our business requirements.”

Dilip Vellodi added, “Philippines is a strategic component of Sutherland’s global service delivery model. Its favorable economic environment, technically skilled workforce and business friendly government policies have all been driving forces in our ability to rapidly scale our operations.”

India headcount crosses 11000

The company, which has six facilities in Chennai and one each in Kochi and Mumbai, announced that it hired over 3000 employees in India in 2007, thus taking its India headcount to over 11000 employees. Globally, Sutherland now has over 21,000 employees across its 22 delivery centers in India, the United States, Philippines, Canada, Eastern Europe and Mexico.

Within 18 months of its launch in Kochi, Kerala, Sutherland has increased its headcount to over 1500 against its original target of 750 employees. The Kerala offshore facility of Sutherland is becoming the hub of back office processing work in the financial services space. Sutherland expects to double its headcount in Kerala over the 18 months to over 3000 employees.
