Samsung Galaxy S22, Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 may miss One UI 8.5 update: Here is why

Samsung is rolling out the One UI 8.5 update to a range of Galaxy phones and tablets, but not all older flagship models are included in the latest schedule. A new report based on a Samsung Hong Kong roadmap suggests that several devices that were widely expected to get the update are missing from the list. These include the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The absence of these phones has led to concern they may not receive One UI 8.5 at all. This update comes even though many users expected longer support, given Samsung’s promises of multiple Android upgrades and security support cycles.

According to the reported roadmap from Samsung Hong Kong, the One UI 8.5 rollout is planned for several Galaxy devices starting in June. The fact that the devices like the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were not included can mean that they might have completed their life cycle for software updates. Samsung’s update policy for these phones promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security patches, which means their final major update is expected to be Android 16 based One UI 8.

This means that no major new features from One UI 8.5 will be available to the user with these devices. The phones will still continue to receive security updates for about one more year, which helps keep them protected from major threats. While this may disappoint some owners who hoped for an extra update, it is in line with the company’s stated support plan.

The newer Galaxy models, including the Samsung Galaxy S26, S25, S24 and S23 series, along with newer foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 7 and 6 series, will continue to receive the One UI 8.5 update as scheduled. With the fresh UI updates, the devices will receive changes at the interface level, including performance improvements.

However, if you’re someone who owns older Galaxy flagships, then the main issue you’ll face is the security support rather than the new feature upgrades. Many users may start considering future upgrades once security updates end, but in my opinion there is no urgent need to replace devices immediately.
