The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, although equipped with beta multimodal audio AI features and a camera, lack visual AR elements. On the other hand, the Meta Quest headsets are predominantly designed for VR gaming and used for a handful of mixed reality experiences.

What could distinguish the Orion glasses as “true” AR devices is the fact that they’re supposed to be more technologically advanced with a visual element.

According to the report, there is significant internal pressure within Meta to deliver a high-quality demo of the Orion glasses. Some insiders at the company have been experimenting with advanced prototypes in order to meet these expectations.

It appears that the Orion glasses are not yet prepared for a full-scale release. Even if they are showcased at Meta Connect, they are not expected to be immediately available to the public.

If Meta indeed showcases the Orion glasses later this year, it’s probably just to get people excited about what’s coming. It’s not just about the technology getting better, people need to get used to the idea of wearing smart glasses too. That’s why companies like Meta and Apple are starting with niche products. The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses seem to be popular because they look like regular glasses and are good for things like making content.
