After sending threatening emails to Sony executives, hackers have now released stolen personal data online.
Hackers have leaked the emails of two senior Sony executives online, following a major hack of the company’s computer networks last month.
The cyber criminals uploaded the personal emails of Sony employees on file-sharing sites and the Bit Torrent file-sharing network. The hackers claimed that the emails belonged to Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television, and Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The group of hackers, who call themselves ‘Guardians of Peace’, posted a message online, “We have already given our clear demand to the management team of Sony, however, they have refused to accept. We are sending you our warning again.” The message was posted with the title “Gift of GOP for 4th day: Their Privacy.”
According to reports, the emails have been leaked in order to further pressure Sony from releasing the movie 'The Interview' which shows the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Hackers also sent extortion emails to executives ahead of the security breach. The email asks for "monetary compensation" or "Sony Pictures will be bombarded as a whole" signed by "God'sApstls" a phrase that was found inside the malware used in the attack that wiped many of Sony's computer systems. According to reports, the attack bears striking resemblance to previous acts by North Korean hackers. However, North Korean authorities have denied involvement, but stated that the attack is a “righteous deed of the supporters and sympathizers.”
