There is a lot that Google is doing to make Chrome the go-to browser. To name a few, it has added security features and rolled out the Page Lifecycle interface, which enables more efficient memory management for the browser. But these updates were seen in Chrome 68, which was released in July. The company has already announced that it will release the Chrome version 69 update on September 4 and with that, it is preparing to bring an all new Chrome Material Design.
In its latest Chrome enterprise release notes, Google said, “Chrome Browser will have a new design across all operating systems. Highlights include Microsoft Windows 10 notification-center integration, touchpad gesture navigation on Windows, and autofill updates.” According to The Verge, Chrome’s new desktop design will get subtle changes and will include a more rounded and whiter appearance. The mobile version will have a greater redesign on iOS. Google will move the navigation controls to the bottom of the screen so that users can use it with the phone in one hand. Those who do not want to wait until September 4, can enable some of the changes in the current Chrome 68 release for both desktop and mobile.
Last month, it was reported that Google might soon overhaul Chrome’s design and shift to “Material Design,” which is widely used in the company’s other offerings. At that time, François Beaufort, who works as an open-source Chromium evangelist said that the browser UI has been refreshed with the Material design for Chrome OS, Linux and Windows. With the new revamped design, Chrome will get a new address bar and the tab shapes and colours will be changed as well.
