Google hosted its much-awaited I/O 2025 keynote last night, and just like many expected, AI took centre stage. The company revealed a wide range of AI-powered tools and upgrades that are set to change the way we search, create content and even shop online. From smarter replies in Gmail to better AI image/video generators, Google is weaving AI into almost every product in its ecosystem.

AI Mode for Search is rolling out
Google has announced that starting this week, all users in the US will get access to AI Mode—a new tab that lets you search the web using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot. This summer, the company plans to test new features for AI Mode, including deep search capabilities and the option to create charts for finance and sports queries. Shopping through AI Mode will also be available in the coming months.
Project Starline becomes Google Beam
The 3D video chat tool Project Starline now has a new name—Google Beam. It will be available inside an HP-branded device with six cameras and a light field display to show lifelike 3D images.
Imagen and Veo upgrades
Google also unveiled Imagen 4, its latest AI text-to-image generator, which improves text generation and supports exporting images in more formats like square and landscape. Meanwhile, the tech giant’s next-generation AI video generator, Veo 3, will enable users to create videos with synchronised sound.
New AI filmmaking app: Flow
During its I/O event, Google also introduced Flow. Flow is a new AI filmmaking app which combines Veo, Imagen and Gemini to generate 8-second video clips.

AI in Chrome and Gmail
Gemini is coming to Chrome for AI Pro and Ultra users. It can summarise pages and help you navigate websites. Gmail will soon offer smarter replies based on your inbox and tone.
Search Live and Project Astra updates
Search Live lets you point your phone camera at something and talk to Google AI about it in real time. Meanwhile, Project Astra can now speak based on what it sees, like pointing out mistakes in your homework.
Google Meet gets AI speech translation
Google Meet is getting a new feature that can translate your speech into your conversation partner’s preferred language almost instantly. For now, the feature supports only English and Spanish and is available in beta for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Smart shopping features
Google is experimenting with a new feature that lets you upload a full-length photo of yourself to preview how shirts, pants, dresses, or skirts would look on you. This feature uses an AI model designed to understand the human body and the subtle details of clothing. Google also plans to let AI handle shopping and checkout tasks for you.
Android XR glasses
At Google I/O, the company offered a glimpse into the Android XR-powered glasses. The live demo showcased how these smart glasses could seamlessly fit into everyday life—letting users message friends, book appointments, get turn-by-turn directions, snap photos and more. One standout moment was a live language translation between two people.
