Apple Business is here: What it is and how it works

Apple has introduced a new platform called Apple Business, which is designed to bring the company’s business tools into one unified system. The tech giant calls Apple Business an ‘all-in-one platform.’ The platform combines features from Apple’s earlier business-focused services, including Apple Business Essentials, Apple Business Manager, and Apple Business Connect.

The new platform will be available starting April 14 in more than 200 countries and regions. It will be available as a free service for current and new users of Apple’s previous business tools. However, some services like extra iCloud storage and AppleCare+ will still require payment.

Apple Business: What it offers

Apple Business includes built-in mobile device management (MDM), which allows companies to manage device settings, security policies, apps and user groups from a single platform. Employees will also get access to a dedicated Apple Business app. With this app, they can install work-related applications, look up colleague contact details, and request support.

Another key feature is called Blueprints. This allows administrators to preconfigure devices with the required settings and apps before employees receive them. This means that the employees can turn on their device and start using it immediately after unboxing. This zero-touch deployment works when devices are purchased directly from Apple or authorised resellers.

The platform also introduces Managed Apple Accounts that keep personal and work data separate. ‘Company data remains secure while employee data remains private, with cryptographic separation of work and personal data on devices,’ Apple said.

Apple Business now introduces fully integrated email, calendar and directory services, making it easier for new businesses to get started with a professional identity. Organisations can either bring their own domain or purchase one through the platform. Also, the companies can manage how their brand appears across Apple services.
