Elon Musk could bring Tesla EVs to India next year
Tesla is reportedly looking into entering India’s EV market.
The production unit could be established in India by 2025.
It is considering Gujarat as one of the locations for its first Indian production unit.
Elon Musk’s Tesla is one of the most tech-laden cars and car enthusiasts have always looked out for it. Sadly, Tesla is yet not available in India and fans have been hoping that it will come soon, even engaging with Musk himself on X (formerly Twitter). But it turns out that these wishes could come true sooner than anyone expected as word on the internet is that Tesla could arrive in India by next year, 2024. Let’s find out more.
According to a Bloomberg report, Tesla is currently looking into entering India’s EV market. For this, the company is currently in talks with the Government of India. It is trying to come to an agreement with the government that allows the company to ship Tesla cars to India as soon as 2024. The media reports also suggest that Tesla could be looking to set up a manufacturing unit in India itself and is making arrangements for the same.

The production unit could be established in India by 2025. During this year’s Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, we might get a better picture of Tesla’s plans as it is considering Gujarat as one of the locations for its first Indian production unit, along with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. All of these states currently have a well-established ecosystem for electric vehicles and their export. The company, however, is yet to finalise a state.
Back in June 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that they plan on making significant investments in the country and even plan on visiting India in 2024. Now reports suggest that Musk plans on making an initial minimum investment of $2 billion in India. In addition to this, the company even plans on buying more auto components from India itself which will be worth as much as $15 billion.
We even hear that after the production of its EVs is in place in India over the coming decade, it could also produce its battery packs in India to further lower the cost.

However, there has been no official confirmation yet and the plans could obviously change. We should wait for an official confirmation before we start dreaming of Teslas on the Indian roads.
