The message is fake, and the government has also recently clarified that they don’t provide any direct cash assistance to the beneficiaries based on their age. The authorities have also urged the citizens not to forward the misleading message. SurveyPM Jan Dhan Yojana viral message

PIB, the official fact-check agency of the Indian government, has recently posted about a new scam related to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. According to the viral message, the PMJDY 2026 application form has been released, and eligible Indian citizens can receive direct financial assistance between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh.
It also shows different payment amounts for different age groups and says that approved people have already started getting the money. The message also has a hyperlink towards the end. When you click that, then you get redirected to a suspicious website where they ask you to register as the beneficiary of the scheme and ask for your personal details.

What did PIB say?
PIB Fact Check via a X post debunked the viral message and confirmed that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana does not provide direct cash assistance of Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh based on a person’s age. They further added that the claim is false and has no connection with the actual scheme.

The authorities also clarified that the PMJDY eligible account holders receive a RuPay Debit Card that offers free accidental insurance cover of up to Rs 2 lakh, subject to the applicable terms and conditions. Finally, PIB made it clear: this insurance cover is not free cash from the government. It’s not a grant or direct payment, just an insurance benefit.

How to stay safe
If you don’t want to fall victim to such scams, then you must always exercise caution while clicking on any unknown link shared via WhatsApp or social media. Moreover, if there is an offer of government benefits or if one has been promised easy money in a message, one should not respond to it, as it can raise a red flag for being an act of scam.
