Spotify has launched an updated version of its Apple TV (tvOS) app, now available globally via the App Store. The redesign brings the app more in line with its mobile and other-TV platform equivalents, introducing video podcasts, music videos (in most markets), on-screen lyrics and improved controls. For Apple TV users, the takeaway is a richer, more feature-complete living-room music and podcast experience, compared with the older, more basic version. Here’s everything new:
SurveySpotify tvOS app: new features
- Revamped interface: Spotify claims the new update is built from the ground up for Apple TV with a ‘faster, smarter, more visual experience.’ The tvsOS app now looks closer to the mobile and Google TV versions. This UI should be smoother and responsive than the previous version.

- Video podcasts: With this update, you can watch podcasts with video support and control playback speed on Spotify. So, suppose you are someone who likes listening to podcasts while doing household chores or some other activity. In that case, you can listen to and also watch Spotify’s growing podcast catalogue on Apple TV.
- Music videos: Similarly, Spotify premium users in 97 markets can now switch from audio to video when a song includes a music video. This expands Spotify’s entertainment value beyond audio streaming. Note that this feature isn’t available in the US or Canada yet.

- Adjustable playback speed: Offers flexibility to change the speed of podcasts or video content—useful for interviews or longer episodes.
- Queue management: Spotify on Apple TV now lets you view, add, or remove tracks in your play queue, similar to what’s available on Spotify’s mobile app.
- Spotify DJ (AI recommendations): The app can now use AI to curate playlists and suggest what to play next based on your listening habits.
- Spotify Connect remote control: A key feature of Spotify is Connect, as it allows playback control from other devices like your phone or tablet, making navigation easier than using the TV remote.
The video feature may be limited by licensing rights Spotify holds in your market.
Needless to say, you will need a Spotify Premium subscription for full access to many of these new features (especially video). Spotify’s Individual premium plan costs Rs 139/month, and annually, it will cost close to Rs 1,700.
So, for Spotify premium users on Apple TV, this update could be meaningful as it is now more aligned with features you’d expect from a living-room music and podcast platform.
