You can now use Snapchat on your Apple Watch, but there’s a catch

Snapchat has just made it easier to stay in touch with your friends, even when your phone isn’t in your hand. The app is now available on the Apple Watch, allowing users to check messages and respond quickly right from their wrist. This update is part of Snapchat’s goal to be available across all the devices people use.

“Snapchat is the seamless way that more than 900 million people communicate with their friends and family, and we’re making it easier for Snapchatters to bring their conversations with them on the go with Snapchat now available on Apple Watch,” the company announced.

With the Snapchat app on Apple Watch, you can preview incoming messages and reply using several options. You can type with the on-screen keyboard, use Scribble to write by hand, speak your message using Dictation or simply send an emoji. It’s a great way to respond to someone without pulling out your phone.

“This builds on our commitment to making Snapchat available across all the devices you use, including wearables,” the platform explained.

But here’s the catch: the Apple Watch version of Snapchat is quite limited compared to the full mobile app. You won’t be able to view Snaps or take photos. It’s mainly focused on messaging and sending quick replies. So, while it’s handy for keeping conversations going, don’t expect the full Snapchat experience on your wrist just yet.

Still, what I think is that being able to quickly respond to a message without taking out your phone is convenient. Whether you’re at the gym, walking the dog, or just don’t feel like picking up your phone, the Snapchat app for Apple Watch will help you stay connected more easily.
