Apple is currently gearing up to host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 next week. The event will kick off on Monday, June 9, when the company is expected to announce major updates across iOS, iPadOS, macOS and more. While AI might take a backseat this year, Apple seems focused on improving the everyday experience for users.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is working on several new features for AirPods that could be announced at WWDC 2025. One of the expected highlights is a new sleep detection feature. Many people fall asleep while listening to music or podcasts with their AirPods on. Apple is said to be developing a way for AirPods to detect when a user has fallen asleep and automatically pause audio playback. It’s unclear whether this will work independently or in sync with the Apple Watch, which already has sleep detection.

Another interesting feature reportedly in the works is camera control using AirPods. Apple may finally allow users to trigger their iPhone or iPad camera with a simple gesture — like pressing the AirPods stem. The company is also exploring new head gestures, according to the report. These gestures might let users perform tasks such as ending conversation mode without needing to touch the AirPods.

Apple is also said to be working on a “studio quality” mic mode, inspired by last year’s Audio Mix feature. Lastly, the tech giant may improve how AirPods connect to shared iPads, especially in classroom settings where multiple students use the same device.
It’s important to note that these features are not confirmed by Apple yet. So, it’s better to take them with a pinch of salt.
