Valve has released the Steam Chat for Android and iOS devices. The company has decided to release a standalone chat app for Steam instead of updating the chat option, which is already available on the Steam app for phones. The new Steam Chat carries over some key features from the online game distribution platform’s desktop clients like the Friends List. One will be able to see their friends who are online or in game. The custom categories and favorites bar section are also available, but notable additions include rich chat options like embedding images and the ability to send videos, gifs, tweets and more.

The Steam Chat app also features customisable notifications so that users don’t miss a message or game invite. One will also be able to customise notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel. The option to add friends on Steam with a link is also present and one can generate an invite link that can be sent via text or email. There’s also support for group chats. The UI of the app is also revamped and features a dark theme with a clean interface.

Valve launched its Steam Chat app soon after launching the Steam Link app for iPhones, iPads and Apple TV. The Steam Link app features a Remote Play option, which enables users to stream games on their mobile devices. While the feature is in beta, it enables users to stream games from their computer to a handheld devices anywhere. Previously it required two devices to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. One can enrol in Remote Play beta by logging into their Steam Client on PC and navigating to settings > Account > Beta Participation. Users should note that there could be some bugs since the option is in beta and the app experience could be slightly glitchy.
