Twitter will track other apps on your smartphone to “improve” ads

Twitter will track other installed apps on your smartphone in a bid to improve target ads and content.

Twitter Inc has announced a new feature called 'app graph' that will track all third-party apps installed on the users mobile phones and other devices in an effort to deliver more tailored content and ads.

App graph will track the types of applications Twitter users have on their phones and other devices and will be used by the micro blogging site to recommend who they may like to "follow" and for improving promoted content/Ads.

Twitter has come up with app graph in an effort to improve user engagement and drive growth. The company stated that it is not collecting data from within the applications and has also posted instructions on how to turn the feature off. The site has given users an option of activating the "Limit Ad Tracking" or "Opt out of interest-based ads" features on Apple or Android mobile devices respectively.

"To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in," the company said on its site.

Twitter which has been trying to boost its user base, recently announced that users can now send tweets as direct messages to their friends. The micro-blogging site has introduced a feature called “Share via Direct Message" that will allow users to share public tweets with their friends via Direct Messages on iOS and Android platforms.
