The Ministry of Law and Justice has expanded access to its digital legal assistance platform, Nyaya Setu, by introducing it on WhatsApp, making the free legal guidance easier to reach for citizens all over India. The authority announced this on X on Thursday stating the move allows users to seek basic legal information and assistance directly through the popular messaging app, without visiting courts or legal offices. The government has said the integration is aimed at simplifying access to justice by meeting citizens where they are, on their phones.

For the unversed, Nyaya Setu was originally introduced in August last year as a digital platform to help citizens navigate legal queries and processes without the complexity of formal legal systems. By adding WhatsApp support, the government hopes to remove barriers such as lack of awareness, time constraints, and physical access to legal aid.
As per the Ministry, all the users can interact with the Nyaya Setu chatbot on WhatsApp to get their hands on the legal information, basic advice, guidance on available legal remedies and more. In a post on X, the Ministry said the update would ensure that professional legal help is “swift and accessible” to everyone.
How to use it
To use the service, citizens can message the number 7217711814 on WhatsApp, which appears under the name “Tech-Law.” The chatbot presents multiple options, including legal advice, information, and assistance. While the system prompts users to verify their mobile number, some services are currently accessible even without completing verification.
All Android, iOS, and WhatsApp Web users can access the Nyaya Setu WhatsApp chatbot. To activate the chatbot, users only need to save the number and text in the chat.
