Meta has introduced a new feature on Threads called communities, designed to help users connect over shared interests. Communities are public spaces where people can join conversations about topics like basketball, TV shows, music, and much more. The feature is currently being tested with over 100 popular topics, with plans to expand further.

Communities build on existing Threads features like custom feeds and topic tags. With communities, people share their knowledge, experiences, and passions with others who enjoy the same topics.
Finding a community is simple. Users can search for communities by name or tap a community tag on a post they find interesting. Posts that belong to a community are marked with a small three-dot icon, indicating that the topic has its own dedicated space. Once a user joins a community, it will appear in their feeds menu and on their profile, making their interests visible to others.
Each community has its own custom Like emoji, which adds a unique touch to interactions. For example, Book Threads features a stack of books as its Like emoji. This small personalisation helps members feel a stronger sense of belonging when interacting with posts and comments.
Meta is also planning other features to enhance communities. Special badges will be introduced to recognise standout contributors who actively participate and help build discussions. “We’re also working on ranking within communities and the For You feed so that you see the most relevant posts first,” the company stated in a blogpost.
