How to import your ChatGPT memory into Google Gemini: Step-by-step guide

Amongst the battle of AI chatbots, the average users are the ones who benefit the most. That’s because they always have the option to switch from one chatbot to another, helping them get the most out of the tools. Though a major issue that remains is the memory. If you interact with one chatbot a lot, it starts to understand you better, helping to give results better suited towards your needs. To tackle this problem, most AI companies have been actively bringing memory import prompts, which allow switching from one chatbot to another. Most recently, Google has introduced the same for their Gemini. Let’s take a look at how you can import your ChatGPT memory into Google Gemini with ease.

How does the import memory feature work?

Google Gemini

In case you’re confused about how exactly the feature works, worry not, as there’s not much going on. It’s pretty simple: In one place, you have an AI chatbot, which gives out the export prompt, which you are required to paste into the chatbot whose memory you wish to get.

Once you input the command, the source chatbot will recall everything you talked about and create a file/text document for the chatbot you wish to import the memory to. Now, on the other chatbot, you can simply copy and paste the output given. Once done, all the previous details would get imported into the new chatbot’s memory.

Before Google, Anthropic’s Claude introduced support for this feature. Though reports also suggest that Google could also be working on a feature that would allow users to import all their chats from multiple AI chatbots and put them into Gemini at once. However, currently, it remains unclear when this feature could come out.

Step-by-step guide on importing ChatGPT memory to Google Gemini

Note: Currently, the feature hasn’t rolled out to everyone, but it is available on the beta version of the Gemini application, as reported by Android Authority.

Once the feature does roll out, though, you can follow the steps mentioned below to import memory from ChatGPT to Gemini:

  1. First up, open the Google Gemini application on your phone.
  2. Once you’re there, click on the top-left side, where your profile picture would be located.
  3. Scroll down, and just below the Connected Apps feature, you should be able to see a button that reads, ‘Import memory to Gemini’; click on it.
  4. At the top, you should be able to see the prompt, which needs to be copied. Click on the copy button to copy the prompt onto your clipboard.
  5. Now, open the ChatGPT application on your phone, and paste it into a new chat window.
  6. ChatGPT should give out a detailed response; simply copy the response given out.
  7. Go back into the Gemini application now, and in the same ‘Import memory to Gemini’ section, you should also see the option to paste the given output.
  8. Paste the output and press the ‘Add memory’ option to update your Google Gemini’s memory.

After you’re done, Google Gemini should now have all the previous details shared by you. With that said, I hope you understood exactly how you can use the latest feature to import memory from ChatGPT to Gemini. For more such handy guides, keep on reading Digit.in
