Spec Comparison: Moto C vs Redmi 4A vs YU Yureka Black
HIGHLIGHTS

The Moto C is the newest budget offering from Motorola and it's second MediaTek-powered smartphone.

Motorola’s second MediaTek-powered smartphone is called the Moto C and it seems to be replacing the Moto E range as the company’s budget offering. Priced at Rs. 5,999, the phone competes against smartphones like the Redmi 4A (review) and even the new Yu Yureka Black to some extent. It’s a budget offering, so it’s not surprising that Motorola is choosing a MediaTek chipset on this device. However, this could get in the way of the company’s usual promise of regular Android updates.

Nevertheless, the Moto C already has one over its competitors in the fact that it’s running Android 7.0 Nougat. That means you’re on the latest version of Android even on a budget device, something that other OEMs seem to have actively overlooked. Will that work? We shall find out in due time. Here’s a quick comparison of the specifications of these devices side-by-side.

Updated Android

We’re halfway through 2017 and OEMs have still not been making phones that run the latest version of Android. A cursory glance at the market would confirm that almost every phone today runs on two-year-old Android Marshmallow. That indeed gives the Moto C a big advantage over the devices it’s competing with.

Storage

On the other hand, we always recommend against buying phones with 16GB storage only. The Moto C does support micro-SD storage, but Android has never been very good at making micro-SD cards useful. That’s actually a downside for both the Redmi 4A and Moto C, while the Yureka Black is a safer (but more expensive) purchase with 32GB.

You may argue that you don’t need a lot of storage space on your smartphone, but even then, 32GB is simply a safer purchase. It ensures that your phone can last a few years and doesn’t slow down as easily.

Should you buy it?

We haven’t reviewed the phone yet, so we can’t recommend for or against it. However, the fact that it has 16GB storage should mean that it’ll suit only the most basic of users. It’ll be interesting to ascertain how much performance Motorola can draw out of the MediaTek SoC and measly 1GB of RAM.
