OnePlus X: First Impression from the launch event
HIGHLIGHTS

The latest offering from OnePlus is a smaller screen device featuring OnePlus One-like specifications on the inside, with a new facade

The OnePlus X has just been launched. Upon first sight, it looks slim and well built. It packs in a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, along with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage expandable upto 128GB. While performance-wise, the OnePlus X might hold up well, it does not support 64-bit operation, which might be an issue for a large number of apps. Otherwise, there are no major lags, and Oxygen OS seems much better now.

The device is quite heavy – the ceramic version weighs 160 grams, and is priced at Rs. 22,999. With no fingerprint sensor, an older generation processor, and the overall finish of the device appearing more fingerprint-friendly, it is hard to justify the price tag. However, the compact form factor and the build quality, along with the design of the smartphone, seems good.

In summers, grip might be compromised because of the slippery surface. The camera seemed decent at best, although low light photography is not its forte. The display looks decent, with deep blacks and ample clarity, and the large battery pack along with a smaller AMOLED display should free you of battery troubles. The buttons on the edges are neatly placed, which leads us to reaffirm that the OnePlus X has been built and designed very well.

Among things that the OnePlus X miss vividly is the fingerprint sensor, fast becoming common in smartphones priced as low as 10k. The 16GB of internal storage is yet another point that may deter many buyers. With larger applications sizes, 16GB of storage is no longer enough, and many devices at this price point come with 64GB of internal storage. On this note, the Ceramic version of the OnePlus X is priced almost similarly as the OnePlus 2, somewhat beating the point for people looking for a OnePlus device at cheaper prices. Add to that the older generation specifications, and apart from the design and build prowess of the device, it is really hard to justify any reasons that OnePlus may present for buying the OnePlus X.
