Motorola Edge 70 is a fully loaded ultra-thin smartphone that proves battery life doesn’t need a bulky phone

For nearly a decade, smartphone buyers have been forced to make an annoying compromise. If you wanted a slim and light phone that felt premium in the hand, you had to live with average battery life. And if you wanted strong battery endurance, you had to accept a phone that felt thick, heavy and sometimes uncomfortable after long use. Finally, in 2025, brands started chasing slim designs again, leading to a revival of thin smartphones. This year, devices like the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge grabbed attention for their sleek profiles. But while they look and feel great, they also come at a very high price and still leave questions around battery life.

This is where the Motorola Edge 70 quietly steps in and changes the conversation. Because this phone isn’t slim just for the sake of it, instead, it focuses on balance, offering a genuinely slim and light form factor that still delivers dependable, everyday battery life, without charging flagship-level prices. Let us explain.

Slim design without the usual compromises

The first thing you notice about the Motorola Edge 70 is just how slim and light it feels. At 5.99mm thick and 159 grams, it easily holds its own against much more expensive devices. For instance, the iPhone Air measures 5.6mm, and the Galaxy S25 Edge comes in at 5.8mm. In daily use, however, the difference between these phones is negligible. All three feel sleek, nimble and easy to use with one hand. Where the Edge 70 stands out is how accessible this experience is. Unlike the iPhone Air and S25 Edge, which cost well over Rs 1 lakh, Motorola brings this slim form factor to a far more reasonable price of Rs 28,999, including offers.

Despite the slim build, the Motorola Edge 70 never feels fragile or underpowered. It feels well put together and thoughtfully designed, with a premium in-hand feel that you would normally associate with far more expensive phones. For context, the front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, the frame uses aircraft-grade aluminium, and the rear panel features a Premium textured backfinish. Buyers can choose from three colour options: Pantone Bronze Green, Pantone Gadget Grey and Pantone Lily Pad.

The display also plays a big role here. While all slim phones in this conversation offer bright 120Hz OLED panels with HDR10 playback support, the Motorola Edge 70 actually outshines them in real-world brightness. In our internal lab testing, its display reached 2,580 nits in high brightness mode, beating both the iPhone Air at 1,900 nits and the Galaxy S25 Edge at 2,000 nits. These are not marketing peak brightness figures, which is as high as 4,500nits for Edge 70, but usable brightness levels that genuinely make a difference outdoors. The result is a screen that looks vibrant, punchy and easy to read even under harsh sunlight.

Performance that stays cool and efficient

The Motorola Edge 70 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, paired with 8 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage. Of course, this is not a flagship chipset like the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Apple’s A19 Pro. But what truly matters is how the phone behaves in daily use, and this is where the Edge 70 genuinely impresses. Thanks to near-stock Android 16 with Hello UI, everything feels quick, clean and responsive. App launches are snappy, animations are smooth, and switching between multiple apps never feels like a strain. In terms of speed and fluidity, it feels right at home alongside phones that cost significantly more.

The choice of LPDDR5X RAM also plays an important role. This is the same RAM standard found on ultra-premium devices like the Galaxy S25 Edge, and it helps the Edge 70 maintain consistent performance without unnecessary slowdowns. Benchmarks back this up in a meaningful way. The phone scored 1,334 in Geekbench single-core and 4,248 in multi-core, while posting an Antutu score of 1,407,789. More importantly, it dropped just 5% battery during heavy benchmarking, with surface temperatures staying at a very reasonable 38°C. In the CPU throttling test, it managed an impressive 88% stability, which is no small feat for a phone that is under 6mm thick.

Gaming performance is equally reassuring. Popular titles like BGMI run at up to 120 fps, matching phones that cost three or even four times as much. What stands out is not just the frame rate, but how well the phone manages heat during longer sessions. The Edge 70 stays cool, stable and comfortable to hold, clearly showing that Motorola has paid close attention to thermal management.

Battery life that actually makes sense in a slim phone

This is where the Motorola Edge 70 really earns its place. Despite being just 5.99mm thick, it packs a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. In a market where bulky phones are pushing 7,000mAh batteries, 5,000mAh might not sound exciting at first. But context matters. Those larger batteries usually come in phones that are 8 or 9mm thick and noticeably heavier. The Edge 70 takes a smarter approach. The silicon-carbon battery allows Motorola to keep the phone slim and light while still delivering high energy density and reliable, all-day endurance.

In real-world use, the Motorola Edge 70 easily lasts a full day without stress. And when it’s time to charge, the 68W TurboPower fast charging makes a noticeable difference. With the 68W PD 3.0 Type-C to Type-C charger included in the box, the phone reaches around 50% in just 15 minutes and charges fully in 51 minutes. Even if you forget to charge overnight, a quick top-up in the morning is enough to get you through the day. For those who care about convenience, the Edge 70 also supports 15W wireless charging.

When you look at the competition, the difference becomes clear. The Galaxy S25 Edge has a 3,900mAh battery, while the iPhone Air drops to 3,149mAh. Both are slim and premium, but neither inspires confidence for heavier users. The Motorola Edge 70, on the other hand, feels built for real life. And the truth is, most people charge their phones every day anyway. So the choice becomes simple. Would you rather use a slim, light phone that comfortably lasts a full day, or carry a heavier phone with a massive battery that still ends up on the charger every night?

With the Edge 70, you get the core fundamentals right: a slim design, efficient performance and genuinely solid battery life. And when you factor in the Rs 28,999 price tag with offers, Motorola makes a strong case for itself. You get the best of both worlds: strong battery life and a slim build, without paying a hefty premium, and that is exactly what makes the Motorola Edge 70 stand out in 2025.
