Xiaomi confirms one month delay for Mi Band 2 due to production issues

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that the Mi Band 2 has been delayed by a month. On a Weibo post, he wrote, “Mi bracelet 2 production more difficult, it is estimated to be released one month later.” The device was scheduled to be released alongside MiUI 8 and the Mi Max smartphone on May 10, at an event in Beijing.

Last month, Jun had posted a picture of himself wearing the device on Weibo. The image suggests that the device will have a display, a feature that was not present on the original Mi Band. Leaked images have also suggested that the new device may have a silicon strap and a separate dongle, a design similar to the one used by its predecessor.

The Mi Band was launched in India alongside the Mi 4i last year, and was priced at Rs. 999. The device is IP67-certified, sports a 41mAh battery that the company claims to be enough to last 30 days. Xiaomi had later launched an upgraded variant of the device called the Mi Band 1S. The new device is slightly larger than its predecessor, and comes with a heart-rate monitor. However, the Mi Band 1S is not available in India.
