Airtel offers 1.5GB daily data with unlimited calling with Rs 398 prepaid plan to rival Jio
The validity of the recharge is of 70 days and it is unclear if Airtel would discontinue its similarly priced Rs 399 plan that offers 1.4GB data per day and unlimited voice calling for 70 days.
Jio entered the telecom sector and almost forced other key players to cut down on the skyrocketing prices since it offers affordable plans that bundle data, calling and messages. In the latest development, Bharti Airtel has launched a new Rs 398 prepaid plan under which a user gets 1.5GB 4G data per day, unlimited voice calling and 90 SMS per day for a total of 70 days. Reportedly, the number of unique calls that can be made each week is limited. This plan by Airtel goes up against the Rs 398 prepaid pack by Reliance Jio that offers 2GB of data per day.
Both Airtel and Jio have Rs 399 plans but even there, the latter tops Airtel by offering 1.5GB data per day as compared to the 1.4GB daily data by Airtel for 70 or 80 days. It is not known if Airtel or Jio will discontinue this plan. Last month, Airtel launched a new range of combo prepaid recharge packs that are aimed at further simplifying its prepaid lineup. Offering data and talk time benefits, along with multiple validity options, the new combo pack range represents the most popular recharge denominations such as Rs 35, Rs 65 and Rs 95. The company said that the new packs have been designed on the basis of extensive research and feedback from customers, who highlighted the need for talk time, tariff and data built into one single pack instead of the need to do separate recharges. Airtel had also launched affordable international roaming voice packs called "Foreign Pass’, for prepaid customers in India. Recently, under the Jio-Phone Pe anniversary offer, Jio subscribers were offered a Rs 100 Instant discount on recharging with the Rs 399 plan. This effectively brought the plan's cost down to Rs 299 under which users get unlimited calling and 42GB 4G data per month for three months.
