Xiaomi to announce CC series of phones on July 2.

Xiaomi China has teased the phone in a video on Weibo.

Both the CC9 and CC9e may have a triple camera setup on the back.

Last week, Xiaomi announced the CC series of smartphones in partnership with fellow tech firm Meitu. It was thought that the smartphone maker would launch two phones on the same day of the announcement, but it didn’t. Xiaomi has now confirmed that it will unveil a handset (or handsets) under the new series on July 2. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer shared a poster image on Weibo announcing a launch event on the above-mentioned date. As per the image, the launch event will be held at 7pm local time (4.30pm IST) on July 2 in Beijing, China.

Additionally, Xiaomi China has also shared a video on Weibo teasing a CC series phone. In the video, we could see Gavin Thomas, an eight-year-old kid who became an overnight sensation in China because of his ‘fake smile’ expression. Thomas, along with Xiaomi CC Product Manager and  Brand Spokesperson Cici, are seen taking the phone for a spin. In the video, Xiaomi has censored the design of the phone from the back, but we could see the phone having a waterdrop notch.

Xiaomi CC-Series Launch

This suggests that this particular device won’t have the flip camera, like we have already seen on the Asus 6Z that was launched in India recently. This further leads to the speculation that the phone could be the Mi CC9e – a watered-down version of the Mi CC9. In fact, CC9e’s speculated design matches exactly with the phone that is seen in the video. Even the renders suggest that the device will sport a triple camera setup on the back and a display with waterdrop notch.

Rumoured Xiaomi CC9e

With its debut, CC now becomes the third brand under Xiaomi Corporation, with the other two being Mi and Redmi. According to Xiaomi Co-founder Lei Jun, the phones belonging to this series will be targeted at youngsters around the world who “want to define themselves”. ‘CC’ means Colorful & Creative, and the phones will follow the popular colour trends of the year, Jun said, adding that smartphones in the CC-Series will be designed and developed by the Chic & Cool 90 team.

Rumoured Xiaomi CC9 Smartphone

As far as specifications are concerned, the CC9, which reportedly has the codename “Little Fairy”, is speculated to pack a 48MP main sensor in addition to an ultrawide and a telephoto unit. Rumours are rife that this phone will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. The image of the phone shows a white colour finish with pink accents. The CC9e, which has already been spotted on the TENAA website, is expected to sport a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. On the front, the phone could sport a 32MP sensor, while the rear camera setup is expected to feature a 48MP main shooter alongside wide-angle and telephoto sensors. Under the hood, the CC9e might feature the Snapdragon 712 chip. The phones are expected to run on a custom version of MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. The starting prices of Mi CC9e and CC9 could be CNY 1,599 Yuan (approx Rs 16,000) and CNY 2,599 Yuan (approx Rs 26,000).
