X down: The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is currently experiencing a major technical outage in the United States. The disruption is not limited to the US, as users in India have also reported similar issues. Thousands of users say the app and website suddenly stopped working today. At the time of writing, reports in the United States have reached approximately 42,261, while complaints in India have surpassed 3,000. The number of reports began rising sharply around 7:00 PM IST. Users in major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru report being unable to refresh their timelines or view new posts on the platform.

X down: Outage report in India

According to Downdetector, reports increased sharply on Tuesday evening, with more than 3,300 users flagging issues at the peak around 7:10 PM IST. The usual baseline is around 2 reports, which shows how sudden the spike was. Data also shows that 49 per cent of users faced problems with the website, while 41 per cent reported issues with the mobile app. Around 10 per cent said the feed and timeline were not loading properly.

The outage appeared to affect users in several major cities. Downdetector’s map showed high reports from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Indore, Patna, and Chandigarh. Many users said the platform was not loading, while others reported trouble refreshing posts or accessing the service.

X down: Outage report in the United States

The disruption was not limited to India, as users in other countries also reported problems at the same time. Downdetector data showed a massive spike in complaints in the United States, where reports crossed over 42,000 at the peak. The normal baseline there is around 15 reports. Most users said the app was not working, accounting for 51 per cent of complaints. Another 23 per cent reported feed and timeline issues, while 17 per cent said the website was not working.

Some of the major cities in the United States that were affected include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Washington, and Boston. The map showing the locations of the outage indicated that the reports were spread across different regions. This means that the outage was widespread.
