After MacBook Neo, Apple may introduce MacBook Ultra with touchscreen and OLED screen

After introducing the low-cost MacBook Neo, Apple appears to be planning a new premium laptop that will sit above its current MacBook Pro lineup. This follows Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power According to the newsletter, the company is developing a high-end model that will most likely be called the MacBook Ultra. The device may include an OLED panel and touchscreen support, which we have not yet seen. Some reports also indicate that the upcoming laptop will be a new category rather than a direct successor to current MacBook Pro models.

Apple MacBook Ultra release timeline, design and more

The device is expected to launch later this year. A previous report suggested that Apple may bring OLED panels and a slimmer design to the MacBook Pro lineup with future M6-powered versions expected in late 2026. However, the latest report stated that these upgrades may instead debut on a new flagship device positioned at the top of the lineup.

Gurman also stated that the new laptop may coexist with MacBook Pro models backed by the Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than replace them. With this, the company aims to cater premium buyers and justify the high price tag.

Apple MacBook Ultra price expectations

There is no official pricing at the moment. However, the potential strategy may follow the previous product lineup. When Apple introduced the OLED panel on the iPhone X in 2017 and later on iPad Pro in 2024, the company raised the prices of the device by around 20 per cent. We can expect a similar price hike.

More premium products incoming

Along with the MacBook Ultra, the company is expected to introduce more premium devices. The report suggests Apple may introduce a foldable iPhone with a price close to $2,000. The reports also suggest that the company could introduce new AirPods models that may sit above the current AirPods Pro. Again, these are leaks and not confirmed by the brand yet.
