If you are using an older iPhone or iPad, there is some good news. Apple is rolling out new updates for several older devices that no longer receive the latest iOS versions. These updates mainly focus on improving security and keeping older devices protected from newly discovered threats.

The company has released iOS 16.7.15, iPadOS 16.7.15, iOS 15.8.7, and iPadOS 15.8.7. While these updates do not bring new features, they include important security patches. Several older iPhones are eligible for the update. These include the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus. On the iPad side, the update is available for the iPad (5th generation), iPad Pro (9.7‑inch), iPad Pro (12.9‑inch) (1st generation), and iPad mini 4.

The updates include security fixes related to the Coruna exploit, a vulnerability that was recently revealed by Google, reports MacRumors. The issues were already fixed in newer iOS versions like iOS 16 and iOS 17, but these latest updates bring the same protections to older devices that cannot install those newer versions.

How to download the updates

Installing the update is simple. You just have to open the Settings app, tap General, and select Software Update. Download and install the latest update if it appears. If automatic updates are enabled on your device, the update may install automatically in the coming days.
