Apple’s iPhone SE easier to bend, more susceptible to water than iPhone 6S
Catastrophic failure at 80kg!
The upcoming iPhone SE smartphone is reportedly more prone to bending than the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. According to tests, conducted by SquareTrade, the new 4-inch iPhone is weaker than the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, bending under a weight of 160 pounds (about 72kg). That’s about 4kg less than the 6S and about 9kg less than the 6S Plus. According to SquareTrade’s tests, the smallest iPhone reached a state of “catastrophic failure” at 178 pounds (about 80 kg) of pressure.
Further, SquareTrade’s tests also discovered that the iPhone 6S is better at dealing with water than the iPhone SE. According to the tests, the iPhone SE shut off, permanently, in less than a minute, when submerged to a depth of five feet. On the other hand, the iPhone 6S survived for a full 30 minutes and returned with only audio damage. SquareTrade pointed out that the iPhone SE was the least resistant to water damage as well.
However, in a tumble test, the iPhone SE outperformed the iPhone 6S Plus. After 30 seconds of tumbling around in a box, the iPhone SE had minor scuff marks, while the 6S Plus was completely shattered. The 6S though was not damaged either.
SquareTrade also performed a pavement test, dropping the iPhone SE on its screen and sides on the pavement, from a height of six feet. In both these tests, the phone display shattered pretty easily. The iPhone SE got a Breakability Score of 5.5, while the iPhone 6S Plus remained the most susceptible to such damage.
