Samsung was initially supposed to launch the device in India in September, but was delayed after the phone started exploding and catching fire
After a disastrous start, it seems like Samsung may finally launch the Galaxy Note 7 in India soon. Reports suggest that the company is planning to do so before Diwali, which falls on October 30 this year. The device was initially supposed to be available in the country from September 2, but after a spate of incidents involving the device catching fire, the phone’s availability was put on hold. There were also reports that the company was planning to relaunch the phone on October 7, the same day as the launch of the Apple iPhone 7 in the country.
The Indian aviation authority, DGCA, recently lifted the ban on using or charging the Galaxy Note 7 during flights. However, this only applies to devices purchased after September 15. The new “safe” devices can be identified by a green battery icon. Samsung also noted that it hasn’t sold a single unit of the Galaxy Note 7 in India so far. The lifting of the ban comes after Samsung officials met with the DGCA following reports of a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone catching fire onboard an IndiGo flight traveling from Singapore to Chennai. There are also reports of a user in China who claims that one of the safe units of the Galaxy Note 7 had exploded while charging, burning two of his fingers and damaging his Macbook.
