WhatsApp users can now pull media from Instagram and Facebook for chats and Status updates: Report

Instant messaging platform WhatsApp rolls out new features and enhancements across platforms, ranging from iPhone, Android and PC experiences, periodically in its attempt to enhance the user experience. In a recent move, the Meta service is testing a feature that enables users to share posts, reels and stories sourced from their Facebook or Instagram account on WhatsApp, WABetaInfo reported.

According to the report, to use the feature, the Facebook and Instagram accounts should be linked to the WhatsApp profile using the Accounts Center. Once enabled, users will have the option to use the feature for chats and status updates. The WhatsApp tracker says the functionality is currently rolling out to select beta users and will reach more users gradually.

The company introduced similar cross-platform integration for Meta apps in 2025, which allows users to share their status updates to Stories on Instagram and Facebook.

With the recent enhancement, WhatsApp could improve the experience of media sharing across Meta services. Once linked, users will have the convenience of accessing media such as photos, videos and reels from Instagram and Facebook on WhatsApp. Though an official statement is missing, WABetaInfo states the feature will arrive for Android and iOS users.

Once released, users will have the option to switch between media from Instagram and Facebook. The grid view will display all the media shared on these platforms. In the images shared by WABetaInfo, the feature is visible in the media picker of the status update tab and the chat view window. This will enhance the reusability of the media across Meta services.

However, the Account Center feature will be optional. If you do not want to link your Instagram and Facebook accounts, you can avoid connecting them to WhatsApp. Plus, it is worth noting that the feature allows media sharing from Instagram and Facebook to WhatsApp. But WhatsApp media is not shared with the other Meta services, as the instant messaging app stores data on the user’s device.
