HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung Galaxy A80 makes an appearance on company’s India website.

The phone is expected to launch in India in the coming weeks.

It has already been unveiled in some international markets.

We all know that Samsung has revamped its strategy and is now on a smartphone launch spree globally. Under its new strategy, the South Korean company has already unveiled a number of phones this year in India and now, it will soon pull the covers off of the flagship A-Series phone, the Galaxy A80. The handset has now found a dedicated space on Samsung's India website, along with a ‘Notify Me’ button to give users an option to receive timely updates about the launch of the phone in the coming weeks.

The Galaxy A80 (First Impressions) has already been launched in some international markets like Thailand. There were reports that the company would launch the phone in India in May, but it didn’t. Over the weekend, a report said that Samsung was planning to hold exclusive previews of the phone in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata on June 8 and 9. The USP of the phone is its slide-out swivel triple camera setup.

Samsung Galaxy A80 specifications:

The Galaxy A80 is housed in an aluminium casing which is sandwiched between glass protection. The rear glass panel curves along the edges to offer a better grip. The phone sports a near edge-to-edge display that stretches 6.7-inches diagonally, making it the largest display ever on a Samsung device. The panel delivers a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels and a 20:1 aspect ratio. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A80 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset, which is tuned specifically for gaming. There’s 8GB of RAM along with 128GB storage with no option to expand it. The Galaxy A80 also has the same ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication that's there on the Galaxy S10. Thanks to the piezoelectric display technology, the screen also doubles up an earpiece by sending sound vibrations while on a call.

In the camera department, the Galaxy A80 sports a triple camera stack which includes a 48MP camera sensor with a lens having f/2.0 aperture. The primary sensor is complemented by an 8MP wide-angle sensor offering 123-degree field of view. There is a 3D ToF sensor for depth measurement. The entire camera setup along with the LED flash and the laser autofocus is housed in a separate unit made of plastic that rises up from the frame – just like the one in Oppo Find X. The camera unit then flips over to the other side becoming the front camera. Samsung claims that the entire motion takes around 1.2 seconds to complete.
