After months of deliberation, OnePlus has finally confirmed the name of its next flagship and it will be called the OnePlus 6. Lately, there has been some concern over the fact that the company did not refer to their next flagship with a name, but there was little evidence to believe that they would shift away from their regular nomenclature. The internet loves to debate over pointless things and viewpoints based on misinformation spread fast, so OnePlus has gone ahead and put rumours of the name to rest. How do we know? Well, the official OnePlus 6 forum is now live on the company website. There is also the official tweet that marks the beginning of a relentless marketing campaign that will lead up to the launch of the OnePlus 6.

As of now, the forum does not have any threads that reveal new information. We know that the OnePlus 6 will sport the latest Qualcomm silicon 845 and pack 8GB RAM, and massive internal storage in true OnePlus fashion. We also now know that the phone will come with a notch, a move that Carl Pei personally took to justifying. The notch has been a controversial piece of smartphone design in recent times, with the feature unanimously being disliked by a vast majority of consumers and reviewers alike. Some have even gone as far as to say that “the notch is a solution to a problem that does not exist.” Regardless, with companies getting behind the trend, there are not a whole lot users can do.

So here’s what we do know about the OnePlus 6 so far based on rumours. Besides the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and the 8GB RAM, the phone will also come with a dual camera setup on the back, featuring a vertical alignment instead of the horizontal layout we have on the OnePlus 5T. We expect the phone to run a version of OxygenOS based on Android Oreo. Thankfully, the phone will retain its 3.5mm headphone jack, which has been confirmed by both Pete Lau and Carl Pei. We do expect stellar battery performance regardless of the battery capacity and look forward to Dash Charging, which at the moment, seems to be the fastest amongst the various fast charge technologies out there. Last, but probably the most exciting, is the first look we got of the OnePlus 6’s back when Evan Blass of @evleaks tweeted out what looked like a brushed metal finish of the OnePlus 6. For longtime fans, you would remember that the Sandstone finish on the original OnePlus was one of the most popular design aspects of the phone.

Typically, OnePlus launches their first flagship of the year in June, however, it is being rumoured that this year, the company might move up its release schedule and launch the phone in the next month or two. As of now, there really seems to be no reason to rush the phone to market. Launching the phone sooner might please many fans of the company, but then there are bound to be those who would be upset at an early launch.
