OnePlus 3 and 3T start receiving Android 9 Pie update

OnePlus 3 and 3T start receiving Android 9 Pie update
HIGHLIGHTS

The OS update is a staged roll-out.

The Android 9 Pie update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T is being pushed out randomly to a very limited number of devices.

If no critical bugs are found, the roll-out to all devices could happen in the coming days/weeks.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T first released back in 2016 and if you are still rocking the smartphones, then there is good news for you. OnePlus on its official forum has said that OxygenOS 9.0.2 based on Android Pie will rollout to OnePlus 3 and 3T users. On the official forum, OnePlus has said, “This OTA will have a staged rollout, the OTA will be received by a limited number of users today and will have a broader rollout in a few days (sometimes a couple of weeks or more) after making sure there are no critical bugs, so using VPN to download this build might not work as the rollout is not based on regions and is randomly pushed out to a very limited number of devices.”

So if you haven't received the update, fret not. OnePlus is ensuring that the Android 9 Pie build functions properly on the smartphone before rolling it out to everyone. As the statement mentions, if no critical bugs are found, then the rollout could come to OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones sooner.

With the update, OnePlus 3 and 3T users will get the new Android 9 Pie OS along with a brand new UI. The Android security patch will also get updated to version 2019.4. Users will also be able to customise the time range in the new Do Not Disturb mode. The dialer will also bring with it support for Google Duo calling and the camera gets native support for Google Lens. There are also systemwide bug fixes and improvements. The OnePlus 3 and 3T were launched way back in 2016 and it is nice to see OnePlus support the smartphones with not only security patches but OS updates as well.
