JioPhone Monsoon Hungama offer: Get JioPhone at Rs 501 from July 21 in exchange for your old feature phone
HIGHLIGHTS

From July 21, one would be able to get a new JioPhone for Rs 501, after exchanging it with their old feature phone.

Reliance Jio made numerous announcements at RIL's 41st Annual General Meeting early this month. One of those announcements was the JioPhone Monsoon Hungama offer under which users can exchange their old feature phone for a JioPhone. The offer will commence from July 12 and alongside the exchange, one will need to pay an additional sum of Rs 501 to get the JioPhone. The network operator also announced that from August 15, both WhatsApp and YouTube will be available for download on the 'smart' feature phone. One will also be able to search for videos on YouTube using voice commands and boot up the apps and as well. Judging by the demo presented at the AGM, both apps are a simpler version of their full-fledged counterparts, same as the Facebook app for JioPhone, which was already announced for the JioPhone in February this year.

Alongside the new Jiophone offer, the company also announced its successor, the JioPhone 2. The handset is almost similar to the JioPhone, except for the qwerty keypad. Jio announced that the Jiophone 2 will cost Rs 2,999. It comes equipped with a 2.4-inch QVGA display and is a dual-SIM device. The handset sports 512MB RAM, coupled with 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded further up to 128GB using a microSD card. The device features a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing sensor. The mobile phone is powered by a 2000mAh battery.

Jio did not confirm, which processor powers the JioPhone 2 but as there are very few hardware changes, it could be equipped with the same Spreadtrum SP9820A or the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform (MSM8905) as the JioPhone. The JioPhone 2 runs on KAI OS and supports VoLTE, along with ViLTE, and supports LTE Band 3,5,40, along with 900/1800 MHz 2G bands and eMBMS. Alongside JioPhone announcements, the company also shared its JioGigaFiber plans, entry in the smart home segment with a slew of devices and more.
