Huawei, Leica partner to improve smartphone photography
HIGHLIGHTS

Leica is known for making some of the best cameras and lenses in the world and their expertise should help Huawei improve its smartphone cameras

Huawei has announced that it will be partnering with Leica to improve the imaging capabilities of smartphones. Leica is known for making some of the best and most expensive cameras and lenses in the world, and its expertise is sure to help improve the cameras in Huawei’s phones. However, it isn’t clear exactly what form the partnership would take.

“We choose our partners carefully, and with this extraordinary collaboration we are offering our wide customer base and consumers the best elements of two expert brands in harmony: combining innovation and design, enhancing the user experience and continuing to inspire amazing advancement in human technology through exceptional premium imaging quality. Leica is a legend in the world of photography; we believe no other manufacturer has revolutionised the industry as much as them. We, Huawei, take the utmost pride in exceptional quality and Leica is in a class of its own in its sector,” said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG in a statement.

Last year, Panasonic and Leica launched the Lumix DMC-CM1. The phone has a 1 inch f/2.8-11 Leica lens and a 20MP MOS sensor. The ring around the lens is synchronised with the phone’s camera app and is used to switch through shutter speed, focusing, ISO, and exposure options. The Lumix DMC-CM1 is capable of recording 4K videos and can save images in RAW format.
