Google’s next foldable could be ‘Pixel 9 Pro Fold’: All you need to know
HIGHLIGHTS

Google’s next foldable smartphone could be the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

If Google sticks with this name, it could indicate the company’s intention to add the next Fold into its flagship lineup.

The second-gen Pixel Fold is expected to skip the Tensor G3 and use a new Tensor G4 chip instead.

Google typically launches two smartphones under its flagship lineup. There is speculation that Google might break that tradition by adding a smaller Pro device to the upcoming Pixel 9 lineup. A new report suggests that there could be a surprise fourth Pixel 9 device launching this fall, in a manner that was unexpected.

According to a report by Android Authority, Google’s next foldable smartphone could be the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

It’s important to note that Google initially called the device codenamed “comet” the “Pixel Fold 2” until quite recently in the development process. The name “Pixel 9 Pro Fold” might not be set in stone yet, but it’s what Google might currently be going with.

If Google sticks with the new name, it could indicate the company’s intention to add the next Fold into its flagship lineup instead of keeping it as a separate, niche, and pricey device.

Also, it would show Google’s commitment to offering its foldable option alongside its flagship Pixels, rather than treating it as a separate choice that feels like a completely different device.

Earlier, it was reported that the second-gen Pixel Fold is expected to skip the Tensor G3 and use a new Tensor G4 chip instead.

Also, it was rumoured that some recent prototypes of the Pixel Fold 2 feature 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. In comparison, the previous year’s Pixel Fold had a starting configuration of 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
