Google’s next flagships may be called Pixel, Pixel XL, may launch on October 4

Google’s two upcoming smartphones might be called the Pixel and Pixel XL. According to a report by Android Police, the device currently known as Sailfish might be called the Pixel, while the larger device (codenamed Marlin) might be called the Pixel XL. This lines up with an earlier report that suggests Google was planning on ditching the Nexus name. If Google does brand it's news phones as Pixel, then it might be planning on creating a new lineup of devices, considering that it launched its Pixel C tablet last year. 

In a separate report, Android Police also said that Google will be launching the two smartphones on October 4, alongside a new Chromecast and Daydream VR headset. The new Chromecast is said to be capable of streaming 4K video and might be called either the Chromecast Plus or Chromecast Ultra. It's not known if the company also plans to launch an upgraded variant of the Chromecast Audio this year. 

The new VR headset is tipped to be called the Daydream view. Earlier this year, there were reports of Google working on a headset that would directly compete with the Samsung Gear VR. Unlike the company's previous headset, Google Cardboard, the new device was tipped to be made of plastic was would house additional lenses and sensors.
