Google announces Project Ara developer conference to be held in Jan 2015, says will ' cover major changes and advancements'.

Google has announced a series of developer conferences early next year that will address updates to its modular smartphone Project Ara. Google will also demo the latest Ara prototype and developer hardware and share early plans for a market pilot in 2015.

Google held the first Project Ara Developers Conference in April this year, bringing mobile developers together to get a first look at the Ara Module Developers Kit (MDK). Now the internet giant has announced a second conference which will feature the next major release of the Ara MDK (version 0.20). Google will also showcase the latest Ara prototype and developer hardware, along with the company's plan for a market pilot in 2015. "We have been hard at work maturing and improving the Ara platform, and we will highlight the major changes and advances in the MDK," Google said in a blog post.

Google added, "The first event will be on January 14, 2015, with a central site in Mountain View and satellite locations at Google offices in New York City, Buenos Aires, and London. We will then repeat the same agenda for our developer friends in Asia a week later, on January 21, 2015. This second event will be in Singapore, with satellite locations at Google offices in Bangalore, Tokyo, Taipei, and Shanghai."

Google has also released a video showing the "Spiral 2" prototype. According to the video Spiral 2 has custom hardware from Toshiba which gives developers more space on the hardware to work with. Google says that the conference is meant for developers and the deadline for applying is November 26, 2014. Each application will undergo screening and if selected, applicants have to pay a USD$25-$200 registration fee for the event.

Earlier this year Google had announced that the first Project Ara modular phone will be grey in color and will cost approx $50. The device is expected to be available for purchase in early next year.
